All airport transfers should be like this. You stroll a few yards from the terminal to the speed boat and just 20 minutes later, having cruised past a few ‘picnic islands’ you arrive at this palm-fringed atoll - Taj Exotica Resort and Spa Maldives; located in one of the largest natural lagoons in the world, close to the Maldivian capital Male.
When the island slips into view with white dust sand and palm trees, overwater villas connecting with the island by an elegant curve of wooden walkway it makes the set for a glossy magazine cover-style photoshoot. There are just 64 sea view villas and suites with a pool-flanking restaurant and bar at one end, setting a paradise most private and intimate.
Taj Exotica is your maxi-minimal dream come true, with lapis lazuli lagoons, low key luxury, and exceptional dining.
24 Degrees and the Deep End are in a rustic, open-sided setting with elevated ceilings and traditional thatched roof. Simple wooden tables and rattan chairs are ranged across the floor and a decked area, which offers the best sea views. The culinary masterminds at Exotica keep the cuisine as local, fresh, and diverse as possible, ranging from Mediterranean to Pan-Asian to fresh seafood, often grilled on a charcoal barbecue, and served with island flair. The highlight will be that you only have a la carte services and the chefs do show-style cooking as well as themed dinners to elevate the mood every day. Alfresco style dining adds the cherry on top to make this gourmet journey one of the most unique.
Two open-air pavilions bars Equator Lounge and Pool Bar serve you all the liquid joy keeping you hydrated, whether you’re thirsty for a knee-wobblingly boozy cocktail, a freshly squeezed juice, a flute of ice-cold tea, a mixology perfect cocktail or simply just a Kurumba!
Your other dining options include a more sophisticated flair and romantic Jing at the Ocean Pavillion located half-way down the lagoon which serves adventurous fusion food in a stunning turquoise setting for rather intimate and precious moments. There is still plenty of room for casual affairs over a treetop lunch or for castaway secrets on a picnic island as well.
With a healing philosophy rooted in Indian therapeutic rituals, the spa is a wonderful place to start a healing ritual that makes you new. This soul-soothing Jiva spa is made up of generously spacious treatment rooms for individual and couple therapies. Their extensive menu boasts skin-plumping facials, Ayurvedic mud scrubs, deep nourishing therapies, yoga treatments and stress-busting massages. You can also mix and match treatments according to your mood. Bliss out afterwards in one of the relaxation lounges or the steam bath.
Try the Soma couples’ spa therapy which combines a creamy coconut or mildly spiced scrub with a rose petal bath, hour-long massage, and 30-minute facial. Thank us later!
Taj Exotica is so romantic you might never leave the room. But we take outdoor very seriously and we highly recommend it! Start the morning with sunrise yoga, or, grab your snorkel and flippers of the activity wall in your villa, and, with just a few flutters of your feet, you’ll be hovering over the house reef. We would ideally prescribe a mix of excursions - head to nearby islands to visit traditional Maldivian villages; sail to a deserted sandbank for a romantic picnic or try one of the dolphin-trailed, sparkling wine and fine Canapé fuelled sunset cruises.
After watching the sunset in vivacious hues, you can retire to the Equator Lounge at with pre-dinner cocktails. Nearly everything at Exotica is geared towards couples so let your imagination go wild!
Almost every watersport you can possibly think of is offered. From kayaking, paddleboarding, jet-skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, to parasailing you are guaranteed a mind-boggling thrill. For something further-flung, the resort can arrange sunset cruises, dolphin spotting, or diving courses that range from introductory to advance open water. You can earn some bragging rights with fishing trips for when you head back home. If there just aren’t enough hours in the day for all your underwater exploits, fluoro night dives can be arranged too.
For the more adventurous, diving and snorkeling, are certainly worth trying out. Talk to the experts at the resort's Diving Centre; they will put to rest any doubts you may have and reassure you so that your first dive is enjoyable and exciting
It’s hard to turn a deaf ear to the romance and seclusion of the Ocean Villas, each of which is perched above the lagoon and boast luscious indoor spaces, large private sundecks, outdoor loungers wrapped in flowing white canopies and timber steps that lead down to the shimmering lagoon. If we had to choose, the Beach Suite with Pool just might make it. Set right on the powder-soft sand, these huge, thatched-roof villas open up all along one side, so you can make the most of the sunshine. But this really is a tough choice! The exclusive Rehendi Presidential Suite is the ultimate regal dome, sheathed by understated quaint luxury and with its own private pool and garden. Here you can lounge on the generously spacious day beds, treat yourself to an in-room massage or ask your personal chef to whip up a regal dinner for in-villa private sala dining.
