Opened in 2005 as a three-star resort and refurbished in 2009, Lily Beach has since transformed itself into a five-star resort and come up with an ingenious concept it claims as the first premium all-inclusive plan offered in the Maldives, the Platinum Plan.
Free flow of drinks at its three available bars, free daily replenished mini bar, three meals available at its main restaurant and other food outlets for guests to choose from, two free excursions, and a free half an hour massage treatment at the Spa and a romantic dinner for honeymooners are only a few of the extensive inclusions of Lily Beach Maldives Platinum Plan.
My colleague and I are served a very interesting dinner at Teppanyaki.
It is a 3-course dinner accompanied by the entertainment of the chef, who happens to be my fellow countryman. He performs as our comedian, entertainer and music player. He cooks over the counter, and arranges the food into the shapes of the letter “I”, a heart, and the letter “U.”
He plays music with his cooking utensils every time he sprinkles salt and pepper on the food he is cooking, makes an hourglass tower from onions, and so on. It is very entertaining and so much fun! A Japanese-style dinner at a Maldivian resort, prepared by an Indonesian chef, served by a Filipino host, savored by a couple of Chinese and Indonesian agents and the resort’s Portuguese Sales Manager.
Such an unforgettable mini United Nations experience!
Witnessing the Marvelous Underwater Haven
Lily Beach is blessed with many varieties of coral reefs and fish, and we are blessed with the opportunity of going for snorkelling twice! Our first snorkelling experience is guided by a local trainer and we snorkel around the house reefs near the water sports center.
We are really awed by the greatness of the Creator. Everything we see under Lily Beach waters is just awesome. You can find any color you could mention as you savor the spectacular scene of elegantly swaying corals of various types and shapes, schools of big and small fish warmly welcoming snorkelers, and many other underwater creatures.
We even see a baby shark passing by and then our trainer dives down toward the seabed to show us a sea turtle which is hard for us to spot for its shell is of the same color as the surrounding rocks. Our second snorkeling trip is at an open sea.
We go with around sixteen other snorkelers, two trainers and several local boatmen. Once we arrive at our destination, our boat stops in the middle of the sea, and all of us jump one by one to the sea. This time I am not able to see the seabed anymore and feel a bit scared.
However, once I see the beauty of the underwater world all my fear is gone. Words could not express my feeling when I revel in the beauty of the breathtaking underwater view and God’s marvelous creations. You have to experience it for yourself.
I tell my colleague, as it is her first overnight inspection at a resort, that she is very fortunate to be given the chance to go for snorkeling at Lily Beach’s waters twice which is a service that most other resorts do not give to visiting agents, and most importantly not all resorts possess such a rich and colorful display of Mother Earth's underwater wonder.
The friendly, newly recruited Senior Sales Manager and the Reservations Supervisor who has been with Lily Beach for more than ten years inform us that Lily Beach Resort and Spa is going to renovate Aqva Pool Bar and revamp parts of it to be a new fine dining restaurant which would share patrons with the popular Tamarind, which is open only for dinner and always gets fully booked in no time.
To sum up my trip to Lily Beach I would just say that the all-inclusive concept of its Platinum Plan does not only include the meal plan package, but also covers the spectacular natural beauty, fun-filled activities, great services and warm hospitality of the staff.
