"Private island" is the most overused phrase in Maldives marketing, and occasionally the most accurate. Every resort sits on its own island. That doesn't make it private. We know the properties where the word is a physical description, not a marketing claim.

What makes a resort private is the number of villas, the staffing ratio, the degree to which other guests are genuinely absent from your experience. Some properties have 15 villas. Others have 150. The properties in this collection are ones where "private island" is a physical description of what your voyage will feel like.
The question we ask when reviewing a property for this collection is simple: when you are there, do other guests intrude on your experience? Not occasionally, as a rule.
